Wélcome: the Wildélan way of biohacking.

November 5, 2019 By Cass

Wélcome! This is the first official post we’re sharing to the wider world announcing the launch of Wildélan, a new venture co-branded with Wildilocks and co-residing within the same physical address, yet inhabiting different spaces online. Wé want to explain our principles, what wé hope to achieve, and how this site could be valuable to you.

Wé’ve been “biohacking” for a while now: optimising our biology through specific mindful interventions based on a scientific approach to health.

Biohacking is a rather trendy term these days and can have a variety of meanings, but essentially can be defined as any conscious and deliberate choice we make to improve or optimise our biological function. That can include anything from our morning coffee all the way up to injecting ourselves with CRISPR’ed genes (we certainly don’t recommend that, but if you’re interested in the more biotech end of biohacking – Melbourne’s very own BioQuisitive is a great place to learn, as I’ve been discovering for the last year and a half!) In fact it’s possible to argue that nearly all human technology is biohacking: from the discovery of fire for cooking, which is likely responsible for our brains growing bigger, through to every way we intimately control our bodies’ environments to our preference, like air conditioning and high tech footwear.

But as we develop better technology, we also realise at times that we’ve missed some key aspects of how our biology operates. We are not masters of all we survey: in and around us is a complex environment which makes a huge impact on how we feel and think. As we develop better understanding of this invisible world, we realise that we’ve missed a lot, and many of our established strategies are not serving us: in fact many are actively harmful, and we’ve spent decades of our lives going the wrong way.

Wildélan is an acknowledgement of becoming aware of this, and is intended to be something of a guidebook, with ideas and resources, aka “hacks”, to help you get back on track from what might currently be a place of significant dysfunction or dis-ease. Starting incrementally, making small changes, can eventually snowball, until it seems amazing how far you’ve come from where you once were. This has certainly been our experience.

Wé hope to develop this site from the current bare bones webstore scaffolding wé’re starting out with, to a complex mycelium of ideas, recipes, strategies and resources.

We’ll be launching officially this Sunday, November 10th, at Get Hacked & Get Hi, Melbourne’s first biohacking wellness event – tickets are still on sale for a few more days, don’t miss the chance to come and try in person some of the amazing hacks you can find on our site, and tons of great talks and experiences as well!

Wé welcome your questions, ideas, suggestions and comments. And wé look forward to the journey!
